Research: Quality Sampling for Outsourced Administrative Work
A lightweight way to detect drift without asking an owner to redo every completed item.
Finding: NIST describes continuous improvement as learning from outcomes and risk. Sampling gives a small business evidence about recurring defects before they become a larger correction burden.
Method: define the finished result, review a dated sample, classify defects by severity and cause, and compare the findings with the source instruction or example.
Implication: increase review when severity or drift rises; reduce it only when records show stable results. Sources: NIST, https://www.nist.gov/cyberframework; SBA, https://www.sba.gov/business-guide/manage-your-business.
Limit: no sample proves that every item is correct, so high-risk decisions need their own approval boundary.
